  1. questionI am already defaulted…now what do I do
Unfortunately it is too late to get into a forbearance or deferment. You should immediately contact the guarantor to set up payments. The loan can be rehabilitated with 10 consecutive payments to the guarantor and you may re-enroll in school after 6 consecutive payments!

  2. questionWhat if I have filled for Bankruptcy?
Student loans are no longer dischargeable in any chapter of bankruptcy unless you can prove that repaying the loan creates an undue hardship on you or your family.

  3. questionHow much do I owe/what’s my interest rate?
You will need to contact your lender for your current balance.

  4. questionCan I make payments while in a deferment or forbearance?
Yes. In fact it is a good idea to make payments that are equal to the interest rate. This will prevent your balance from increasing while you are in deferment or forbearance.
